Franklin Murillo is a young Costa Rican leader focused on social development for the common good. He has served in national, regional and global organizations to improve the quality of life of people all over the world. He has always held a strong belief that it is only through collaboration, innovation, clear objectives and shared measurements that the world will overcome its most pressing needs and problems. He currently lives in London with his wife and children.
Franklin currently works as Global Network Director at the Social Progress Imperative, where he facilitates collaboration with regional teams and local networks that translate Social Progress Index data into policy-oriented actions across the world.
He leads the expansion of the Social Progress Imperative’s efforts to scale the use and adoption of the Social Progress Index (SPI) to deliver positive change for people around the world, prioritizing G20 and other strategically significant countries and advancing the use of SPI as a measure of progress for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Previously, Franklin was General Manager of Fundación Gente, a nonprofit Costa Rican organization that seeks to strengthen the national education system through public–private partnerships. He also founded Miguía, a social enterprise that provided support to more than 40,000 mothers in Latin America.
Franklin holds a BA in Education from Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, an MBA and an MA in Project Management from Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología and an MA in Education and International Development with Merit at University College London (UCL), Institute of Education: the best School of Education in the world.
Franklin’s pursuits and achievements have earned significant recognitions that include formal awards as TicAmericas contest winner a Chevening Scholar, a One Young World Leader Ambassador, a Young Challenger by the Grameen Creative Lab, and a Global Thinker. Perhaps most important, Franklin is a passionate family man, dedicated husband, and proud father. He has been awarded World Greatest Dad multiple times.
