Bio

Franklin Murillo is a young Costa Rican leader focused on social development for the common good and an expert in Education and International Development. He has served in national, regional and global organizations to improve the quality of life of people all over the world. He has always held a strong belief that it is only through collaboration, innovation, clear objectives and shared measurements that the world will overcome its most pressing needs and problems. He currently lives in London with his wife and children.

Franklin is Global Insights and Partnerships Director and Agenda 2030 lead at Social Progress Imperative. He facilitates collaboration with regional teams and local networks that translate Social Progress Index data into policy-oriented actions worldwide. He leads the global expansion to scale the adoption of the Social Progress Index to equip government, business, and civic leaders with actionable insight on things that most matter to their community, prioritizing G20 and other strategically significant countries. He has built a robust network of partners and innovative projects in more than 45 countries across Latin America, Europe, Africa, and the Asia Pacific that empowers millions of people with the first-ever understanding of the true state of their society and the tools to drive change. He is responsible for the design and implementation of the strategy to position the Social Progress Index as a key resource in operationalizing and localizing the Sustainable Development Goals, developing relationships and projects with the World Bank, the T20, The Global Partnership of Sustainable Development Data, the UN system, and others.

Social Progress Imperative

Previously, Franklin was General Manager of Fundación Gente, a Costa Rican organization seeking to strengthen the national education system through public-private partnerships. fundaciongenteHe also founded Miguía, a social enterprise that supported more than 40,000 mothers and thousands of teachers in Latin America.

Franklin holds a BA in Education from Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, an MBA and an MA in Project Management from Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología and an MA in Education and International Development with Merit at University College London (UCL), Institute of Education: the best School of Education in the world.

Franklin’s pursuits and achievements have earned significant recognitions, including formal awards as TicAmericas contest winner, a Chevening Scholar, a One Young World Leader Ambassador, a Young Challenger by the Grameen Creative Lab, a TEDx speaker and a Global Thinker. Perhaps most important, Franklin is a passionate family man, a dedicated husband, and a proud father.
